Division of time with the children is a complex matter. Courts consider many factors in deciding child custody with the goal being the schedule that serves the best interests of the child. If you would like to mediate child custody matters, please review the mediation information and call the office for specific information and scheduling.
Child custody can be decided by :
the parents (usually formalized in writing which can be made a Court Order),
or
- the court through a legal process
which commonly include
- classes to educate parents
- conciliation and/or mediation
- psychological evaluation
- drug, alcohol or other testing/evaluation
where concerns are raised
- multiple court steps which the parents are required to attend.
Child custody is an issue that can always
be reviewed and changed in the future by
the parents or a court

- Regardless of how long a situation has existed
- Regardless of the existence of a written agreement or court order
Relocation by a parent should not be considered without consultation with an attorney regarding the legal consequences and requirements for relocation.
