    Child Support is a child's right
  • a right that belongs to the children which cannot be given away by agreement of the parents
  • an issue that can always be reviewed and changed in the future by the parents or a court

Child Support can be decided by :

  • the parents (usually formalized in writing which can be made a Court Order), or,
  • the court through a legal process which includes possible appeals.

Child Support can be paid

  • Directly to a parent
  • or indirectly through the court's PACSES system.

Child support calculated by the court uses guidelines which take into account:

    Child support is calulated by the court
  • All income of the parents including overtime, investment income, etc.
  • The costs of child care necessitated by the work of the parents
  • The premium costs for health/medical insurance for the children
  • The time the children spend with each parent
  • Allocation between parents of medical expenses not covered by insurance
